About
The Low Orbit Ion Cannon is a DDoS tool commonly used by Anonymous in various campaigns. The original release from Praetox was released some time in 2008, and uses the .NET framework. The source code for LOIC was released in June of 2009 and has been modified and improved by NewEraCracker to include bug fixes and an IRC mode called "Hivemind" which allows LOIC users to connect to an IRC server and be controlled by an operator. The Java version doesn't require the .NET framework and has a similar Hivemind feature that can be controlled via a Twitter account. There is a Linux clone of LOIC called LOIQ, which is also open source.
